Painted Floors Revisited

I woke up very early this morning and decided to go surfing and came across these lovely photos on Grant Gibson's blog. I am new to his blog and thought I would share these images with you since I recently posted about painted floors. I love to look at the finished product of an intricate, polished, sophisticated painted floor but have to admit, I can't image the courage it takes to paint the first stroke. My mind drifts to how many things could go wrong and what it would take to correct a botched job. Just think..crisp white paint that has seeped into aged, old hardwood floors!

That's why I choose to share these images with you. Grant Gibson takes a beautiful old house dining room and transforms it into a modern dining room that artfully sends a respectful nod to the room's sophisticated past. He shows the transformation, photo by photo...

Here's a few pictures of the painted floors. Visit his blog to see and read more about his design for the San Francisco Designer Showhouse.

Painted Floors

Painted floors have captivated me for as long as i can remember. As summer approaches, I consider larger scale DIY projects and am once again walking around the house with a paint brush...what can I paint? How can I make an impact, play with my interiors, have a little creative fun!

I need a little inspiration and wanted to share with you some amazing painted floors so fresh and clean.

Stripes: Coloring Outside the Lines

Recently, I have been inspired by stripes used in new and intriguing ways. I have been craving a little modern updating for my own home. Bringing in stripes in some of these new ways might be the answer. My home is very traditional that's why I have selected the images below. Although the pictures offer bold and inspiring modern design aesthetic, they pay homage to tradition. My daughter turns sixteen this September, and we are considering finishing our basement so she and her friends have a welcoming place to gather. I would love to try painting the stairs. Any of the painting techniques would make an impressive DIY project but would need to be coupled with plenty of research, patience and a very accurate level. I'll keep you 'posted' if I give it a try! Enjoy!
